I can’t remember if I’ve ever told you this story before if I have…then I’m sorry.
Anyways, I think I was 16 at the time. It was a Sunday night after church, all of my “friends” were going to Mazzio’s So I went with my family and got to eat with my “friends.” Well I can’t eat and talk at the same time…it’s tough. So when my “friends” left because they had their driver’s licenses. As I was there sitting alone eating my pizza. I asked God,”Will I ever have true friends that aren’t embarrassed of how I eat or drink?” Up until that point in my life I maybe had 3 possibly true friends that were close to my age.
I’ll never forget what my dad said to my on the way home, as I was crying. He said something to this effect, “Abbey, don’t you think God knows what your going through?” I signed, NO! Hello He could talk. Then my dad said these words, “Remember on the cross, He couldn’t talk to anyone even His Father, God because of our sin.” When I heard that I thought Jesus knows what it is like to be alone and not be able to talk.
I have and am still learning that friends will come and go throughout life. But I realize that I’ll always have my 3 sisters. In Proverbs 18:24 it says, “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” That friend is God, He will never leave you alone or stop loving you.
My mom and I had an awesome opportunity to talk to (the singer/ song writer on the group Greater Vision) Rodney Griffin, while we were at the National Quartet Convention last week. I forgot about this song I’m about to share with you, until my mom reminded me about it at the convention. Rodney Griffin wrote this song years ago. It’s called I’ve Been There. I hope it will bless you as it does me.

Abigail, Thanks for giving us a glimpse of something difficult you experienced through your trial. It reminds me of a quote I read earlier this week, and you came to my mind then. “The strongest people are not those who show strength in front of us but those who win battles we know nothing about.” God bless you more.

Awesome story! Thanks for sharing it “again.” It’s the first time I’ve heard the story, though, so I’m glad you took the time to write it here for me and others who might have missed it before.
