If you had asked me to describe this year in one word, I’d probably say unpredictable. But then again, life with dystonia has always been unpredictable.
What made this year different was the migraines.
This isn’t my first time dealing with migraines, but this year they seemed to double without any clear reason why.
For seven months, they came week after week. Some lasted a day. Others lingered for several. I kept a record, hoping a pattern would appear. I looked at the weather, my body changing, stress, sleep, and wondered if my dystonia was playing a role. All the while, I was navigating the ins and outs of living with dystonia every single day. I asked questions. I searched for answers.
But despite all of that, I still couldn’t figure out why they kept coming.
It’s hard not knowing what the problem is.
Thoughts like, “Am I going crazy?” “Does anyone really believe me?” and many others ran through my mind almost weekly. Fighting those lies was one of the hardest parts of this season, besides simply learning how to keep going while living with pain.
Then, after seven months of migraines, I learned something surprisingly simple.
I wasn’t taking my migraine medicine the way it was intended to be taken.
It wasn’t that the medication wasn’t working. I simply hadn’t understood the best way to use it. One small adjustment made a big difference.
That experience reminded me that breakthroughs aren’t always dramatic. Sometimes they’re found in asking one more question or learning one small thing that changes everything.
As I searched for answers, one thing never changed—God’s faithfulness.
He was with me on the migraine days, the discouraging days, and the days I simply didn’t understand what was happening.
Recently, someone dear to me said something I’ve known for years, but this time I heard it differently: “The Lord has precious thoughts toward you that you can’t even number, and there is never a day His thoughts are absent.”
Hearing those words reminded me of the precious people who have continued to pray for me, even on the days I didn’t know they were praying. God has used their prayers, encouragement, and faithfulness as a reminder that I am never walking through difficult seasons alone.
There wasn’t a single migraine day when God forgot me. Even when I didn’t have answers, I was never without His care, His presence, or His love.
Looking back, I’m thankful not only for the relief that came from one simple adjustment, but also for God’s faithfulness throughout every single day of the journey.
Maybe you’re searching for answers too.
Keep asking questions. Sometimes the answer is simpler than you expect. And while you wait, remember that God’s precious thoughts toward His children never stop—not on the easiest days or the hardest ones. His faithfulness doesn’t depend on whether we have answers. He is present through it all.

So true! Once again, so wonderfully, you put words to truth for everyone.
I sure enjoy life best it seems when it’s predictable! Lol! But God gives us challenges to see what we’re capable of. Are we capable of TRUSTING HIM?
And you are a living example of trusting HIM through challenges. Faithfulness.
And! Our loved ones who come along side us every step of the way as you mentioned. What a blessing.
Love you!

I’ll never read Psalm 139 in the same way after how God reminded you deeply of His precious thoughts towards you and His constant presence as you dealt with the questions and pain. Can’t imagine how awful it would be to try to function through those intense migraine attacks one after another with no apparent cause for the frequency. You’ve once again lived out trusting Jesus and pouring out your heart to Him while waiting on the Lord and experiencing Jesus right with you in all the pounding questions and unbearable pain and spiraling thoughts. Brings Lamentations 3 to mind as well as Isaiah 40-41 where waiting on the Lord is what brings God’s strength and a closeness to Him and knowing Him more.
This part brought tears to my eyes:
“As I searched for answers, one thing never changed—God’s faithfulness.
He was with me on the migraine days, the discouraging days, and the days I simply didn’t understand what was happening.”
Echoes what God revealed to Jeremiah in the middle of his ache and sorrow and questions. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercy never comes to an end. Great is His faithfulness.
