Lord, I Need You
By: Ron Hamilton
Sometimes when life seems gentle and blessings flood my way,
I turn my gaze away from You and soon forget to pray.
But when the sky grows darker and courage turns to fear,
My anxious voice cries upward with words you long to hear.
Lord, I need You when the sea of life is calm.
O Lord, I need You when the wind is blowing strong.
Whether trials come or cease, keep me always on my knees.
Lord, I need You. Lord, I need You.
Lord, help me to remember I’m weak but You are strong.
I cannot sing apart from You, for Lord, You are my song.
Although I’m prone to wander and boast in all I do;
Lord, keep my eyes turned upward so I depend on You.
Lord, I need You when the sea of life is calm.
O Lord, I need You when the wind is blowing strong.
Whether trials come or cease, keep me always on my knees.
Lord, I need You. Lord, I need You.
Sunday night we sang this song. I was moved to tears when I heard the first line.
“Sometimes when life seems gentle and blessings flood my way,
I turn my gaze away from You and soon forget to pray.”
This part in the song unfortunately is true. I realized in that moment, when I was listening to each word, that sometimes I forget He’s the artist in my life. I’m really in a way trying to recreate what He created.
There are times when I get so excited about a hard piece I painted. Yet I have to come to the point where I think about how I painted and remember how tedious it was—how I had to take my time. Then it dawns on me, God gave me this talent. Think about it for a moment. God, the Master Artist, gave me, a handicapped young woman, a talent to be an artist! It was very humbling when I realized this thought that night. I have to recognize that I do need the Lord’s help in everything I do, whether it’s painting or writing a blog post.
Sometimes I can get in my mind and think I can do this in my own strength. “Lord, I don’t need you this time, maybe in a different area of my life but not this area.” Oh, what a dangerous place that is in life! Have you ever thought that?
God has given all of us talents. Are we using them for His glory? Or are we being prideful and enjoying the praise we receive? Are you depending on Him daily?
Hope this post encourages you in your walk and dependence with God.
As always, you inspire me.
