As I slowly awake from my comfy cocoon, I am wishing my body could just stay relaxed. “I’ll get up in 5 minutes,” I say to myself, burrowing under my covers once again.
This is what I have been going through every morning, especially the past two weeks. As I lie in bed, questions fill my mind: “What’s the point of getting up when I’ll just be so tight I won’t be able to do anything? Why did I ever decide to have Deep Brian Stimulation?
I could go on, but it might get depressing and that’s not what I want to happen.
When I have these conversations with the Lord, He gently reminds me of the verses I wrote in my journal a few weeks ago before I got so tight.
The words to these verses are such an encouragement to my heart.
Psalm 119:49-50; 57; 59; 71; 76-77
49 “Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.”
50 “This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.”
57 “Thou art my portion, O Lord: I have said that I would keep thy words.”
59 “I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.”
71 “It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.”
76 “Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.”
77 “Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.”
Even now, as I read those verses through my eye spasms, I am reminded of the Lord’s merciful kindness on my life. Let me explain. I may not understand why I’m so tight right now, but that’s ok, because I know the Lord will help get through this like He has in the past. David said,”Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.” We should remember how the Lord has helped us in our past trials. But also remember the grace and mercy when He saved you and adopted you as His child.
Psalm 119:71 “It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.”
I didn’t understand this verse when I first read it. I mean, how is it good for me to be afflicted? Well, if I’m depressed by how life is going, I might need to read my Bible and encourage myself in the Lord like David did in First Samuel 30:6.
I don’t know what you’re going through this month. Maybe you’re trying your best to homeschool your kids and they just aren’t understanding it. Or you’re a college student who is having hard week and wonders, “What am I accomplishing by going to this particular class?” Or you’re a single adult wondering if you will ever find the one? Maybe you just feel like nobody accepts you for who you are? May I encourage you to stay faithful in your Bible reading, because you will never be rejected by God. You are precious to God. In Christ you are enough. We’re never going to be enough, but through the cross Christ is enough. We have full acceptance and value in Christ as His child.
I heard this encouraging song last night my mom showed me on YouTube called, “You can have a song down in your heart.” I hope it will be a blessing to you as it was to me.
1. You can have a melody down in your heart,
When it’s aching, almost breaking.
Even tho’ the sorrow makes the teardrop start,
You can have a melody down in your heart.
Chorus:
You can have a song in your heart in the night
After every trial, after every mile.
Anyone can sing when the sun is shining bright,
But you need a song in your heart at the night.
2. Do not let your worries drive your song away,
Though tomorrow brings its sorrow,
Just remember after night time comes the day.
Do not let your worries drive your song away.
3. Soon the night will pass and morning brings the day;
I am longing for its dawning,
until then we’ll labor here and watch and pray,
Soon the night will pass and morning bring the day
This is truly beautiful, and really what i needed to get through my struggles lately, My family has turned on me while i become a child of light through Christ, and has caused lots of unneeded problems which are hard to deal with especially while suffering through seizures, but through God i am enough and his love for me is never ending! Thank you so much Abigail for your inspiring story! Never forget the work the Lord is doing through you as well!
