The last few weeks of my life have been like a raging storm. I won’t go into all the details, but I will tell you this: the lesson God has been teaching me is patience—patience in God’s timing in my life and learning to once again be content with the path He has chosen for me.
When I read in the Bible about Joseph, I find that he had many circumstances that he didn’t understand. He was sold into slavery by his own brothers. He was thrown into prison for something he didn’t do. But when I look at Joseph’s spirit through his circumstances, I see him being patient and content in what the Lord planned for his life. Remember, Joseph didn’t know the outcome of his life. He lived day in and day out depending on the Lord. In the end God rewarded him for that. I would encourage you to read about this content and humble man in Genesis chapters 36 through 50. Joseph looked back on his life and told his brothers in chapter 50, verse 20:
Genesis 50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
What a great response! He understood that God allowed those circumstances in his life so he could help Egypt go through its circumstances.
Paul says it like this in II Corinthians 1:4—”Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
When I read this verse I find it very comforting to know that God is my Comforter in time of trouble, so I then can comfort others who may be going through trials.
I love how Paul reminds us in verse three that God is the God of all comfort:
II Corinthians 1:3—”Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;…”
That should encourage us, as Christians, to know God wants to comfort us through our trials, big or small.
This song called “Redeemer of The Rain” says it in a way that is so encouraging.
The chorus goes like this:
Redeemer of the rain,
the Lord will never waste our pain.
He brings beauty out of brokenness, and hope to our heart aches.
Healing out of every hurt that invades our shattered world,
We never go through trials in vain,
He’s the Redeemer of the rain.
If you’re going through a circumstance you don’t understand and you’re about to give up, may I encourage you to rest in the arms of our comforting God. For He is the God of ALL comfort! He will give you the strength to overcome whatever you’re facing.
